How to wear the fleece trend | EQVVS
Cosy, comfortable and now extremely cool – fleece is back.
Well, technically it never went away. Traditionally used in outdoor pursuits as a form of insulation, fleece is usually a synthetic material that is designed to mirror natural sheep wool.
It’s been gaining traction recently for its chunky silhouette and retro aesthetic, both of which tie into the 90s resurrection wonderfully. A fleece paired with light wash jeans and chunky trainers gives an easy, laidback, but very on-trend look.
Here’s how to incorporate the fleece trend into your everyday wardrobe.
Specifically designed with the outdoors in mind, Barbour Beacon provides durable but extremely lightweight fleeces that work perfectly for layering. Layer the Barbour Beacon Egremont Fleece, for instance, under a waterproof or wax jacket for the perfect combo of protection against the elements. Or double down on hoods by matching the hooded Eldon Fleece Jacket under one of this season’s block anoraks.
Here Barbour style theirs with wide fitting jeans and bucket hat, proving that the effortless 90s aesthetic can be achieved without too much hassle. And that a good fleece is essential.
The Napapijri Fleece Hoodie is the intersection of two current trends; dressed down 90s aesthetics and outdoors practicality. Offering up plenty of warmth, this chunky fleece doesn’t look out of place on the side of a mountain (if you’re feeling motivated) or in the concrete jungle (let’s face it, much more likely).
Best of all here is the versatility. Hiking boots, running shoes, trainers – you can wear this one with anything.
Also worth a look is the Zip Through Borg Fleece Jacket from Fred Perry. This heavy textured jacket comes with retro Fred Perry branding to the sleeve for a signature finish. It’s durable and will keep you warm through the winter, but isn’t so bulky that it can’t be layered. The cognac colourway is ideal for pairing with dark denim or trousers, and the funnel neck adds a pinch of style.
Dress it down
Never far from our lists, Ralph Lauren has, of course, delivered one of the must-have fleeces of AW18 with the Cotton Blend Half Zip Fleece Pullover. The POLO branding here works fantastic as a reminder of the 90s, while the chunky details and bold American flag logo gives that signature preppy look.
Paired effortlessly with jeans or joggers, we love this one matched up with a good pair of track pants. Remember contrast is key, though, so your bottoms should be a different colour to your fleece. Nobody wants a fleece shell-suit.
Or opt for the Napapijri Tame Fleece Sweat, which features a low-profile curly material that doesn’t overplay the fleece trend. A subtle option that provides an easy gateway to the style and one that won’t easily go out of style.
