England beat Colombia: our favourite reactions | EQVVS

England have finally done it, they've won a knockout game on penalties. Whatever happens in the rest of the tournament, England fans will remember the shootout victory over Colombia for years to come. Here are our favourite reactions to an unforgettable night.

Jesse Lingard calls his mum

As much as we’re trying not to get carried away, we’re all thinking it. Jesse Lingard’s post-game tweet was hilarious.

The Eastenders hardman captured everyone’s passion with a post-shootout roar that we can certainly relate to (although we’re wearing slightly more clothes).

We’re looking forward to his next TV series, Ross Kemp on England’s World Cup Winners…Too soon?

Jordan Pickford responds to critics

After England’s loss to Belgium in the final group game, Jordan Pickford came under fire from his opposite number Thibault Courtois, with the Belgian claiming that the England number one was too small to make crucial saves. Pickford’s reply? Well, apart from the save of the tournament in open play and a decisive penalty save in the shootout, the Everton goalkeeper said after the game “I don’t care if I’m not the biggest keeper, I’ve got the power and agility to get around the goal and I’m very good at it.” Shots fired? More like shots saved.

Gary Lineker speaks for us all

Yep, and it feels glorious.

Gareth Southgate becomes even more likeable

Let’s face it, Gareth Southgate has already become a national hero, masterminding England’s first penalty shoot-out win for as long as any of us can actually remember, and on the way to a World Cup quarter-final. It was his post-match antics that won over even more supporters though, as he comforted Colombia’s Mateus Uribe after he missed from the spot. What a gentleman.
