British-born label Belstaff was founded by Eli Belovitch and son-in-law Harry Grosberg in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire in 1924 and has been creating top quality menswear since. The brand name is a combination of the beginning of Eli Belovitchs surname and the county to which it was created.
The brand started its journey as an outerwear firm specialising in high quality waterproof jackets for motorcyclists and was the first company to use wax cotton. Now synonymous with bikers, Belstaff has built up its reputation from the ground up and is a brand known for delivering fashionable, functional and stylish garments throughout their ranges. Famous faces such as David Beckham, Kate Moss, Harvey Keitel and Katherine Waterston have been associated with Belstaff over the years, a marketing plan that has catapulted the brand to forefront of British heritage fashion.
Other famous faces from the Belstaff back catalogue of icons include The Great Escape star Steve McQueen who is a well documented motorbike fan. Undoubtedly the most popular Belstaff jacket featured in this film and has gone on to be synonymous with the brand - The Trialmaster Jacket.
More recent times have seen Belstaff position its brand identity towards a younger audience, who still want to show off the famous brand logo but in a more contemporary way. Through the use of stylish fit jackets, logo t-shirts and classic hoodies and sweatshirts, Belstaff has forged a gap in the apparel market and now sits comfortably amongst brands from all around the world.
