The idea behind a pair of VEJA?

”Standing up with one foot in design and the other in social responsibility.”

As a brand VEJA have always made clear their stance on social responsibility. With that in mind, starting from scratch was the key to making their shoes differently, ensuring nothing is taken for granted and a change in the production method began.

VEJA take longer to design their shoes, with the goal being to create a pair of sneakers that will stand the test of time. As well as bringing the attention to each step of the manufacturing process.

Did you know only 25 styles have been designed since VEJA was created in 2005.

What you should know:

Organic Cotton:

The cotton used by VEJA is made by farmers from associations in Brazil and Peru- it is harvested with respect for the people and the environment meaning no harsh chemicals are used in the process. It’s purchased by VEJA directly, respecting Fairtrade principles, before being woven into the canvas, laces and upper material used in many of the VEJA models.

Rubber:

VEJA soles are made of 20%-30% natural rubber, bought directly from cooperatives formed by the families of rubber tappers in the Amazon, bought for twice its market price.

Leather:

All leather used by VEJA come from tanneries that are audited and certified Gold by the Leather Working Group (LWG) to ensure complete traceability throughout the entire manufacturing process.

Chemical transparency:

Annually, VEJA check the chemical safety of their sneakers to make sure all hazardous chemicals are eliminated from their production processes.
