How to Wash and Care for Stone Island pieces - EQVVS Garment Guide

Recently bought a Stone Island jumper and want to know how to take care of it? Or debating a jacket, but don't want to commit to the purchase until you know how it can be washed? We've pulled together a garment guide to give you an overview of how to properly care for your Stone Island gear, including high-tech jackets and woollen knitwear, so that you can preserve your wares and get the most out of them. 

As with most garments, your best bet for finding out how to care for them will come straight from the horse's mouth, and by that we mean the care label on the inside of your garment, where you'll find washing and drying instructions as well as composition. But, for the sake of general care, there are a few things worth considering when it's wash day. 

If the garment includes a badge (the rectangular Stone Island embroidered label attached by two buttons), remove it before washing to avoid any colour transfer or damage to the garment. The same rules apply to any other detachable accessories. 

It's recommended to cover things like zip pull tabs before cleaning, too, to avoid any possible damage to the item's fabric during the cleaning process. 

Avoid contact with oil or alcohol-based substances like perfumes, cosmetics or hand sanitisers, as they're likely to impact the fabric and cause stains that may not come out. 

In the case of large stains, it's recommended to clean the item as soon as possible to avoid any stains setting into the garment material, making them harder to remove later on. 

Be mindful that contact with heavily textured surfaces can cause damage to the fabrication and the item's integrity, including pulled threads and scratches. 

The overarching question... Can I wash my Stone Island knitwear? In short, yes. 

However, we've detailed a few tips and tricks to maintain the lifecycle of your garment, including temperature, how frequently it needs washing, and some tips on post-wash care. 

Always pay close attention to the care label inside your Stone Island jumper for specific cleaning instructions, this overrides any general washing advice. Different materials require different levels of care, respond better to different temperatures, and help to prevent stretching and damage, so it's important to consider these to maintain and care for your Stone Island knitwear, and its shape and fabric integrity.

If you're cleaning your items at home, always pay particular attention to the following:

• Wash your garment separately, or with other items of the same colour

• Wash your Stone Island knitwear inside-out with a mild detergent in cold water (max 30°C) on a gentle cycle (or hand wash)

• Always remove badges and other detachable accessories where possible

• Never tumble dry your Stone Island knitwear. Instead, gently roll your jumper in a towel and lay it flat to dry, away from direct sunlight.

It's important not to overwash your Stone Island knitwear, as with any woollen items, as this actually causes more damage and can shrink the fibres. 

Wool, which accounts for a large proportion of Stone Island's knitwear collection, contains lanolin, which is naturally odour and bacteria-resistant (meaning the antibacterial properties break down sweat and prevent smells from building up). Wool is also naturally repels water and stains, so it won't get as dirty as its cotton and synthetic counterparts. 

In between washes, you can hang your wool items outside in fresh air (and in the shade) to freshen up and lift odours.  

Again, please always refer to the care label inside your Stone Island jacket for specific cleaning instructions. 

If you're cleaning your items at home, always pay particular attention to the following: 

• Wash your garment separately, or with other items of the same colour. 

• Avoid soaking your garment

• Line dry your garment in the shade

• When drying down jackets, gently but firmly shake the garment in different directions and from various points to ensure the down is evenly redistributed throughout.

We suggest items made from leather be entrusted to a specialist. 

Hopefully your Stone island garments are getting plenty of wear, and don't spend too much time in storage; however, for when they do need to be packed or stored away, they're best in a cool, dry place, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat or moisture. 

Over-packing them with other garments, or folding them for prolonged periods of time can cause permanent ruin to embroideries, artwork and other delicate parts, so ensure carefully storing your garments with this in mind. 

We also recommend taking them out of storage from time to time and letting them breathe. 

With jackets, it's recommended to store them hanging up without compressing them too much.
