An iconic British lifestyle brand, Barbour has been at the height of fashionable outerwear for over 100 years. Known mainly for their classic wax jackets, the brand has since expanded to provide functional and stylish outerwear for me, women, kids, and even dogs! Originally founded in Simonside, South Shields, the brand was established by John Barbour and has now been a family run business for five generations. Now present in over 40 countries worldwide, their products are sourced from all over the world, however their classic wax jackets are still handmade in the brand’s hometown of Simonside. In addition to their main Barbour Lifestyle brand inspired by the values of the British countryside values, the brand is also parent to Barbour International, which creates motorcycle inspired outerwear; and Barbour Beacon, known for classic designs with a youthful twist.
Barbour Lifestyle

The original Barbour heritage collection is one of the leading outerwear brands in the UK, with the classic wax jacket being its most famous piece. With the aim of providing quality, functional and fashionable clothing, one of our favourite pieces from the brand is the Trello Wax Jacket (£229), which has recently arrived here at EQVVS. This stylish piece comes in a simple single colour design that’s complete with full zip closure and snap sealed placket. Of course the main feature is Barbour’s renowned wax finish, which is designed to provide plenty of durability thanks to its weather resistant properties.
What can we expect in 2020?
Looking at the SS20 preview collection, we can expect a fresh take on the traditional heritage collection. Expect to see bolder colours, such as royal blues and deep crimsons. A classic example this Highland 23 Shirt in Merlot (£65) which not only features the stylish new colour combo, but also features the classic tartan design in a nod to the brand’s Scottish heritage. Tartan and gingham will still be a main feature, except it’ll be given a preppy twist with warmer colours, as illustrated with this Gingham 15 Shirt in Pink (£65).
Barbour International

Developing on from its parent brand, Barbour International was established in 1936 featuring classic motorcycle inspired designs. Featuring quilted and waxed jackets, inspired by the biker look, this collection has been seen to be a popular choice among the royal family and pop icons thanks to it’s effortless attitude and style. One of our favourites from the Barbour International range is this Duke Wax Jacket (£159), available in a selection of stylish colours. With robust winter insulation it’s perfect for protecting you from the elements all the while staying true to the biker look.
What can we expect in 2020?
From the sneak peak of the SS20 collection, this year is all about layers. One piece you can layer up with in style is this Summer Wash International Jacket (£229), a true must have for your wardrobe. Ideal for the transitional weather, this fresh looking wardrobe staple is designed with a tailored fit and comes with all the classic biker inspired features such as snap-placket and plenty of pockets. What else can we expect in the 2020 collection? In addition to the signature rustic colour palette, we can expect to see additional colours such as rich greens and blues. Get the look with this Longsleeve Panel Logo Polo Shirt (£42), featuring the iconic branding in a large print to the chest and a wonderfully fresh blue paired with contrasting black and white blocks.
Barbour Beacon

Barbour Beacon was launched in the UK in 2018, with a key focus on youthful designs inspired by classic pieces from its parent brand. The famous logo is inspired by the lighthouse standing over the River Tyne in the brand’s hometown of South Shields, keeping loyal to their roots. Coined by the brand themselves as the younger man’s Barbour, they’re all about spending time with your mates in the great outdoors, equipped with quality, weatherproof clothing that keeps you looking stylish. We love this Aken Quilted Jacket (£83) which captures the look of the traditional Barbour jacket with a fresh and youthful twist. Keep warm all while looking cool with the quilted exterior and contrasting corduroy collar, finished with the signature Barbour Beacon logo on the chest to show off your good taste. The traditional colour palette is given a fresh look with the help of bright and bold colours in this range too, as shown in this Diamond T-Shirt in Golden Oak (£30), which features contrasting blue and orange, finished with the logo proudly displayed in the centre. Plus, it’s available in a selection of different colours too, so you can add plenty of variety to your wardrobe.
What can we expect in 2020?
Looking ahead to the SS20 collection, it’s still all about bright colours, but in the form of 70s inspired colour blocks. Take this Half Zip Contrast Hoodie (£66.50), which is a perfect piece for making a statement thanks to the striking red and blue colour blocks. We can also expect to be taken back to the brand’s countryside roots too of stylish and functional, with products like this Foley Fleece Jacket (£83).This two in one reversible design combines practicality and fashion, with a cosy fleeced exterior on one side and a technical fabric design on the other in a bold and contrasting colour. Perfect for taking you through the winter months as well as the ‘inbetween bit,’ this fantastic jacket gives you twice the style, and is also available in two colours. Choose from ecru fleece fabric and a striking blue design, or bright and bold orange with deep black fleece fabric.
